The depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah to Rp17,700 per US dollar in May 2026 attracted intensive coverage from Indonesian digital media, including CNN Indonesia on YouTube. This study analyzes the discourse of the broadcast entitled Rupiah Anjlok Tembus Rp17.700/US$ dan IHSG Melorot, Ada Apa? (May 19, 2026) using Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional framework of text, discursive practice, and social practice, augmented by Theo van Leeuwen's social actor representation taxonomy. As an audio-visual object, the broadcast's linguistic data were obtained through verbatim transcription of all utterances, indexed into 12 time-stamped segments; visual and prosodic dimensions are acknowledged but methodologically delimited outside the analytical corpus. The study aims to: (1) identify the linguistic representation of the rupiah crisis at the textual dimension; (2) analyze discursive practices underlying the production and distribution of the discourse; (3) reveal ideology and power relations within the social practice dimension; and (4) describe the representation of six primary social actors, namely Bank Indonesia, the Indonesian government, foreign investors, the general public, global index institutions (MSCI/FUTS), and Donald Trump. Findings reveal that at the textual dimension, discourse is constructed through metaphors that de-agentify economic processes, euphemisms that mitigate crisis intensity, and deontic modality that positions a single commentator beyond his professional competence boundary. At the discursive practice dimension, a single source from a capital market perspective and selective intertextuality from global figures produces a monologic narrative. At the social practice dimension, the discourse reproduces ideological formations that collectively naturalize market logic as the sole rational policy framework. Van Leeuwen's analysis reveals an epistemic hierarchy positioning global actors and market players as active, named agents, while affected communities are categorized passively and generically. This study contributes methodologically through demonstrating the analytical productivity of the combined Fairclough–van Leeuwen framework in Indonesian-language digital economic media discourse studies.
