Abstract

Novels serve not only as entertainment but also as a reflection of the social dynamics, power structures, and ideologies of their time. Research on the novel Namaku Alam has been limited to studies in literary sociology and psychology, so few have critically examined the construction of power and ideology through language. This study aims to analyze the construction of power and ideology in the novel Namaku Alam by Leila S. Chudori. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the critical discourse analysis model of Teun A. Van Dijk. The research data consists of quotations of words, sentences, dialogues, and paragraphs that contain elements of power and ideology. The results of the study indicate that (1) at the textual level, three dominant discourses are constructed: power as a tool for manipulating history, the stigmatization of anti-communist ideology as an instrument of social control, and corruption as a naturalized status symbol; (2) at the social cognition dimension, the author reflects a critical-humanist ideology through counter-hegemonic narratives to reclaim collective memory from state power; (3) at the social context dimension, the historical New Order serves as an active force shaping the state’s repressive practices while simultaneously opening spaces for resistance. The conclusion of this study affirms that the novel not only records history but also functions as social criticism and a tool for deconstructing dominant discourse.
