The Effect of the Generative Learning Model on Students’ Mathematical Reasoning Ability Based on Mathematical Habits of Mind at Junior High School
Keywords:
Generative Learning, Mathematical Reasoning Ability, Mathematical Habits of MindAbstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Generative Learning model on students’ mathematical reasoning ability based on Mathematical Habits of Mind. A quantitative approach with an experimental factorial design was employed. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pangkalan Kerinci in the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was selected through cluster random sampling, with Class VIII.B as the experimental group and Class VIII.C as the control group.Data were collected using a mathematical reasoning test, a Mathematical Habits of Mind questionnaire, observation sheets, and documentation. The instruments consisted of a reasoning test, MHoM questionnaire, and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA.The results showed a significant difference in mathematical reasoning ability between students taught using the Generative Learning model and those taught using conventional instruction. Significant differences were also found among students with high, moderate, and low levels of Mathematical Habits of Mind. However, no interaction effect was found between the Generative Learning model and Mathematical Habits of Mind on students’ reasoning ability. In conclusion, both the learning model and Mathematical Habits of Mind independently affect students’ mathematical reasoning ability, but no interaction effect was identified.
