Reference Style Guide (APA 7th Edition)
Authors submitting manuscripts to IJTIMA’: Journal of Community Engagement are encouraged to use the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition citation and referencing style.
To ensure consistency and ease of citation management, the use of reference management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote is highly recommended.
APA Style Requirements (7th Edition)
- In-text citations should follow the author–year format, for example: (Smith, 2020).
- The reference list should be alphabetically ordered and include the following elements for each entry:
- Author name(s)
- Year of publication
- Title of the work
- Source (e.g., journal title, book publisher)
- DOI or URL (if available)
Using Reference Management Tools
- Mendeley
- Import references directly from academic databases or PDF files
- Generate in-text citations and reference lists in APA style
- Use the Mendeley Desktop or Mendeley Cite plugin in Microsoft Word
- Zotero
- Automatically capture citation data from web sources
- Organize references by project or keyword
- Insert citations directly into Word documents using the Zotero plugin
- EndNote
- Import, organize, and annotate references
- Generate citations and bibliographies in APA style
- Use the EndNote plugin in Microsoft Word for seamless integration
By adhering to APA style and utilizing these tools, authors contribute to the professionalism, readability, and accessibility of their published work.
