Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT

Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT recognizes the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and scholarly publishing. The journal permits the responsible use of AI tools while upholding the principles of research integrity, transparency, accountability, confidentiality, and human authorship.

This policy applies to authors, editors, and peer reviewers involved in the publication process of Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT.

1. General Principles

  • AI tools and AI-assisted technologies may be used to support certain scholarly activities, provided that their use does not compromise research integrity or publication ethics.

  • Humans remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, interpretation, and integrity of all work submitted to or published by Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT.

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, disclose conflicts of interest, approve the final version, or exercise authorship rights.

  • The use of AI must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, critical thinking, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for the research.

  • Authors, editors, and reviewers must comply with applicable confidentiality, privacy, copyright, and data-protection requirements when using AI tools.

2. AI Use by Authors

Authors may use AI tools for appropriate supporting purposes, such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, formatting assistance, or other clearly defined technical tasks.

Authors remain fully responsible for the manuscript and must independently verify all information generated or modified with the assistance of AI.

Authors must:

  • Disclose the use of AI or AI-assisted technologies when such use has materially contributed to the preparation or development of the manuscript.

  • Clearly describe the AI tool used and, where relevant, explain how and for what purpose it was used.

  • Verify the accuracy, completeness, originality, and appropriateness of AI-generated or AI-assisted content before submission.

  • Take responsibility for any errors, fabricated information, inappropriate citations, plagiarism, or copyright issues resulting from the use of AI.

  • Ensure that the use of AI does not result in the disclosure of confidential, personal, proprietary, or sensitive information.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate or manipulate research data, experimental results, references, images, figures, or other scholarly evidence.

AI-generated content must not be presented as the author’s own original intellectual contribution without appropriate disclosure and human verification.

3. AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Other Content

  • Authors must disclose the use of generative AI in creating or substantially modifying images, figures, illustrations, or other visual materials.

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-generated or AI-modified materials do not infringe third-party intellectual property rights.

  • AI-generated images or other materials must not be used to misrepresent research findings, experimental evidence, or data.

4. AI Use in Data Analysis and Research

AI-assisted tools may be used in research analysis when scientifically appropriate. However, authors must retain responsibility for the research design, methodology, data analysis, interpretation, and conclusions.

  • AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or selectively report research data.

  • AI-assisted analysis must be appropriately checked and validated by the researchers.

  • Where AI materially contributes to data analysis or interpretation, its use should be transparently disclosed in the manuscript.

5. AI Use by Editors

Editors may use AI-assisted tools for limited administrative or editorial purposes, provided that such use does not compromise editorial independence, confidentiality, or fairness.

Editors must:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all associated editorial information.

  • Not upload confidential manuscript content, reviewer reports, personal information, or unpublished research data into AI systems when such use would compromise confidentiality.

  • Retain full human responsibility for editorial decisions.

  • Not delegate decisions concerning acceptance, rejection, or publication priority entirely to AI systems.

  • Evaluate AI-assisted recommendations critically and independently.

6. AI Use by Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all manuscripts and materials received for review.

Reviewers should not upload or submit unpublished manuscripts, manuscript sections, figures, tables, datasets, reviewer reports, or other confidential material to publicly accessible or third-party AI systems.

Reviewers must:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript throughout the review process.

  • Provide an independent and objective scholarly assessment.

  • Remain personally responsible for the content and recommendations contained in their review report.

  • Not use AI to generate a complete peer-review report without meaningful human evaluation and responsibility.

  • Verify any AI-assisted suggestions before including them in a review report.

7. Disclosure of AI Use

When AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used in a manner that materially contributes to the preparation of a manuscript, authors should provide an appropriate disclosure statement.

Suggested disclosure:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [NAME OF AI TOOL] for [PURPOSE]. The authors reviewed and edited the content generated or assisted by the tool and take full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.”

Routine use of basic spelling, grammar, or reference-management software does not necessarily require a formal AI disclosure unless the tool uses generative AI in a manner that materially contributes to the manuscript.

8. AI and Authorship

AI systems and AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of articles submitted to or published by Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT.

Authorship requires human responsibility for the work, including responsibility for the integrity of the research, approval of the final manuscript, and accountability for the published content.

9. Editorial Assessment and Compliance

Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT reserves the right to request clarification or disclosure regarding the use of AI when necessary to assess research integrity, authorship, originality, or publication ethics.

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI that results in plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, manipulation of data, infringement of intellectual property, breach of confidentiality, or other forms of publication misconduct may be investigated in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics procedures.

10. Policy Updates

Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT may periodically update this policy to reflect developments in artificial intelligence, research integrity, scholarly publishing, and applicable publishing standards.

For further information regarding the use of AI in submissions, editorial work, or peer review, authors, editors, and reviewers may contact the editorial office of Jurnal Ekonomi KIAT.
