Manuscript Types
Journal of Language Education, Linguistics, and Culture welcomes scholarly manuscripts that contribute to language education, linguistics, literature, and culture. Submissions should demonstrate a clear rationale, appropriate methods, meaningful findings, and relevance to the field. Authors should select the category that best represents the primary purpose and contribution of their submission.
Accepted Manuscript Types
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Research Article | Reports original empirical research — qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods — including experiments and classroom-based studies in language education, linguistics, literature, and culture. Expected contribution: a clear research problem and purpose, a replicable method, findings presented in readable form, and a discussion that positions the progress of the study against previous research. |
| Conceptual Article | Develops theory, concepts, or scholarly positions through critical and systematic argument, without new empirical data. Expected contribution: a well-defined conceptual problem, a rigorous and original line of argument grounded in the literature, and clear implications for research or practice in the field. |
| Literature Review Article | Presents a critical, systematic, or state-of-the-art review of the literature on a defined topic in language education, linguistics, literature, or culture. Expected contribution: a transparent selection of sources, a synthesis that identifies agreements, gaps, and trends, and directions for future research. |
General Manuscript Requirements
Regardless of manuscript type, submissions should demonstrate academic quality, methodological transparency, ethical conduct, and relevance to the journal’s Focus and Scope:
- A clearly defined research problem, conceptual question, or review objective.
- A relevant theoretical, conceptual, or evidence-based rationale.
- An appropriate and sufficiently described methodology, where the manuscript reports research.
- Clear presentation of findings, argument, or synthesis, with a discussion of limitations and implications where applicable.
- Accurate citations and references in the Harvard style: at least 30 references, primarily from the last five years, with reputable international and national sources in a ratio of 80:20 and a DOI included when available.
- A Turnitin similarity index below 20 percent and AI detection below 10 percent, with any use of generative AI disclosed.
- An ORCID iD for every author, and a valid ethical approval number for research involving human participants.
- Compliance with the journal’s Publication Ethics Statement and Authorship Criteria.
Manuscript Structure
Manuscripts follow the order set out in the Author Guidelines: an opening of title, author names and affiliations, and a one-paragraph abstract in Indonesian and in English of at most 250 words with three to five keywords; a body of introduction, research method, results and discussion, and conclusion for research articles; and a closing reference list. Conceptual and review articles adapt the body to their argument or synthesis while keeping the same opening and closing. Before submitting, check the manuscript against the Manuscript Readiness Level.
Editorial Assessment and Peer Review
All submissions are subject to an initial editorial assessment of their relevance to the journal’s scope, completeness, originality, ethical compliance, and adherence to the submission requirements. Manuscripts considered suitable proceed to double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers, as described in the Peer Review Process. Submission under a particular manuscript category does not guarantee acceptance or publication. The journal reserves the right to determine the most appropriate manuscript category, request revisions, or decline submissions that do not meet its scope or publication standards.
Before Submission
- Identify the category that best matches the manuscript’s main purpose and contribution.
- Review the Author Guidelines and the Manuscript Readiness Level checklist.
- Ensure that all authorship, ethical, funding, and conflict-of-interest declarations are complete.
- Verify that the manuscript is original and is not under consideration by another journal.
- Provide sufficient information for the editorial team and reviewers to assess the work.
Journal of Language Education, Linguistics, and Culture aims to disseminate responsible, evidence-informed, and practically relevant scholarly work in language education, linguistics, literature, and culture. Authors are encouraged to demonstrate both the academic value and the practical significance of their work.
