Abstract

Broiler chicken farming is a potential agribusiness due to the increasing demand and its contribution to household income. This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of farmers and the profile of broiler farming businesses; (2) cultivation techniques, use of production inputs, production costs, income, and business efficiency; and (3) appropriate development strategies for broiler farming. The research was conducted in Kelesa Village, Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province, using a case study method with descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative analyses. The results show that the average age of farm owners is 53 years, with workers aged 31–35 years; education levels are elementary to junior high school, with an average of two dependents and five years of business experience. Cultivation involves proper site selection, quality DOC, feeding, watering, and sanitation. The total production cost per period is IDR 704,385,715, yielding a gross income of IDR 907,890,000 and a net income of IDR 203,504,285, with an RCR value of 1.29, indicating profitable operations. The recommended SO (Strength–Opportunity) strategy includes increasing production capacity, expanding markets by opening new coops, and optimizing existing cultivation technologies to enhance broiler productivity and business competitiveness.
