PLAGIARISM POLICY

1. Policy Statement

Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan is committed to maintaining academic integrity and preventing plagiarism in scholarly publishing. All submitted manuscripts must represent original work, appropriately acknowledge the contributions of others, and comply with accepted standards of citation and research ethics. The journal uses Turnitin similarity-checking software to screen submitted manuscripts and, where necessary, revised or accepted manuscripts before publication.

2. Similarity Threshold
20%
MAXIMUM SIMILARITY INDEX

The journal applies a maximum similarity index of 20% as an initial screening threshold. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for clarification, correction, and resubmission before further consideration. The editorial team evaluates similarity reports in context rather than relying solely on the overall percentage. Properly cited material, quotations, references, standard terminology, and other legitimate matches must be assessed individually.

3. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, data, methods, images, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment, thereby presenting them as one's own. It may involve verbatim copying, inadequate paraphrasing, unattributed use of ideas or data, or reproduction of previously published material without proper citation or permission where required.

4. Author Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original and has not been published previously or submitted for publication elsewhere simultaneously.
  • All sources of ideas, text, data, figures, tables, and other materials are properly acknowledged.
  • Verbatim quotations are clearly identified and accompanied by appropriate citations.
  • Paraphrased ideas and findings are accurately attributed to their original sources.
  • Permission is obtained from the relevant copyright holder when required for reproduced material.
  • Any substantial overlap with the authors' previously published work is transparently disclosed and appropriately cited.
5. Similarity Screening and Editorial Assessment

The editorial team reviews the Turnitin report to identify potentially problematic text overlap and determine whether sources have been properly acknowledged. A similarity score below 20% does not automatically establish that a manuscript is free from plagiarism, while a score above 20% does not by itself establish misconduct. The editor considers the nature, location, source, extent, and context of the matching material before deciding on appropriate action.

6. Levels of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions

When potential plagiarism is identified, the editor evaluates the evidence and determines the appropriate response based on the seriousness of the case, the extent of unattributed material, the nature of the material involved, and any relevant explanation from the authors.

Level 1 — Minor Plagiarism

A limited portion of text has been reproduced or inadequately paraphrased without proper attribution, without clear evidence that substantial data, findings, or original ideas have been misappropriated.

Possible action: The authors may receive a formal warning and be required to revise the text and provide appropriate citations. The revised manuscript may be screened again before further consideration.

Level 2 — Intermediate Plagiarism

A substantial portion of a manuscript contains unattributed or improperly attributed material from another source.

Possible action: The manuscript may be rejected. In serious cases, the journal may impose a submission restriction of up to one year, subject to editorial assessment, an opportunity for the authors to respond, and the journal's publication ethics procedures.

Level 3 — Severe Plagiarism

Extensive unattributed copying or the misappropriation of substantial original ideas, data, results, or other significant intellectual contributions from another publication.

Possible action: The manuscript will normally be rejected. In substantiated and serious cases, the journal may impose a submission restriction of up to five years and take other appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics procedures.

Important: These levels are guidelines, not automatic penalties. Authors should be given an appropriate opportunity to respond to allegations before a final determination is made. Any restriction or further action must be proportionate to the established misconduct and consistent with the journal's policies.

7. Plagiarism Identified After Publication

If credible evidence of plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal will assess the case in accordance with its publication ethics and correction and retraction policies. Depending on the findings and seriousness of the case, the journal may publish a correction, issue an expression of concern, retract the article, or take other appropriate action. Relevant parties may be contacted when necessary to establish the facts and protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
