Editorial Standards

Peer Review Process

Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan uses editorial assessment and peer review to evaluate the quality, relevance, originality, and scholarly contribution of submitted manuscripts.

06. Publication Criteria

Manuscripts submitted to the journal are evaluated according to their suitability for the journal's scope and their contribution to research, theory, policy, or practice in education and teacher education.

In general, manuscripts should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Relevance: The subject and objectives are consistent with the journal's aims and scope.
  • Originality: The manuscript offers an original contribution and appropriately acknowledges previous work.
  • Methodological rigor: The research design, methods, analysis, and interpretation are appropriate and adequately explained.
  • Evidence and argumentation: Conclusions are supported by the data, analysis, and relevant literature.
  • Scholarly contribution: The manuscript advances understanding or offers meaningful implications for education, teaching, teacher development, curriculum, learning, or related fields.
  • Clarity and integrity: The manuscript is clearly written, ethically conducted, and compliant with publication standards.

07. Initial Editorial Assessment

All submissions undergo an initial assessment by the editorial team. This assessment determines whether a manuscript is suitable for further consideration before external peer review.

The initial assessment may consider:

  • Compatibility with the journal's aims and scope.
  • Compliance with submission requirements and manuscript formatting.
  • Originality, scholarly relevance, and overall quality.
  • Completeness of required declarations and research ethics information.
  • Potential concerns involving plagiarism, duplicate publication, research misconduct, or other publication ethics issues.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements or are outside its scope may be rejected at this stage without external review. The editorial team may also request preliminary corrections before proceeding.

08. External Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment may be sent to qualified reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript's scholarly quality, originality, methodological soundness, interpretation, relevance, and contribution to the field.

The editor considers the reviewers' reports alongside the manuscript and the journal's editorial criteria. Additional expert advice may be sought when necessary, including when reviewer recommendations differ substantially or a specialized assessment is required.

Possible editorial decisions include:

Accept

The manuscript is accepted for publication, subject to any final editorial or production requirements.

Minor or Major Revision

The authors are invited to revise the manuscript and respond to the reviewers' and editor's comments before a final decision is made.

Resubmission Encouraged

The manuscript is not acceptable in its current form, but a substantially revised version may be considered if the editor explicitly permits resubmission.

Reject

The manuscript does not meet the journal's standards, scope, or publication criteria.

09. Editorial Decisions and Reviewer Recommendations

Reviewer recommendations inform editorial decisions but do not determine them automatically. The editor evaluates the substance, relevance, and consistency of the reviewers' arguments and may consider additional information when necessary.

Where reviewers disagree, the editor may request clarification, seek an additional review, or assess the competing arguments before reaching a decision. Authors may be asked to provide a point-by-point response explaining how each substantive comment has been addressed.

The final editorial decision rests with the responsible editor in accordance with the journal's editorial policies. All decisions should be based on scholarly merit, publication ethics, and the journal's stated criteria.

10. Selection of Reviewers

Reviewers are selected according to their subject expertise, research experience, methodological knowledge, and ability to provide an objective and constructive assessment.

In selecting reviewers, the editorial team considers:

  • Relevant expertise in the manuscript's topic and methodology.
  • The ability to provide an independent and reasoned assessment.
  • Potential conflicts of interest or other factors that could affect impartiality.
  • Availability and willingness to complete the review within the agreed period.

Reviewers are expected to treat manuscripts and review-related communications as confidential and to disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the editor.

11. Guidance for Reviewers

The primary purpose of peer review is to help the editor reach an informed decision and, where appropriate, help authors improve their manuscripts. Reviewers should provide fair, evidence-based, and constructive comments.

A useful review should consider the following questions:

  • Is the manuscript relevant to the journal's scope and readership?
  • Are the research objectives, questions, or hypotheses clearly stated?
  • Is the research design and methodology appropriate and adequately described?
  • Are the analysis, findings, and interpretations sufficiently supported by evidence?
  • Does the manuscript demonstrate originality and a meaningful scholarly contribution?
  • Are the claims appropriately situated within relevant literature?
  • Are ethical considerations and limitations addressed appropriately?
  • What specific revisions would improve the manuscript?
  • Does the manuscript meet the journal's publication criteria, and what is the rationale for the recommendation?

Reviewers should distinguish major concerns from minor corrections, avoid personal remarks, and explain substantive criticisms clearly. Confidential comments to the editor may be provided separately but should not contradict the principal assessment communicated to the authors.

12. Revision and Resubmission

When revisions are requested, authors should submit the revised manuscript within the deadline communicated by the editor. If an extension is needed, authors should contact the editorial office before the deadline.

A revision should generally include:

  • A revised manuscript incorporating the changes made.
  • A point-by-point response to the reviewers' and editor's comments.
  • A clear explanation when a recommendation has not been adopted, supported by appropriate reasoning.
  • Any additional files or documentation requested by the editor.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers or assessed by the editor, depending on the nature of the revisions. A revision invitation does not guarantee acceptance.

13. Review Timeline

Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan aims to conduct editorial assessment and peer review as efficiently as possible while maintaining the quality and fairness of the review process.

Reviewers are expected to complete their assessments within the period agreed with the editorial team. If delays occur, the editor may contact reviewers, adjust the review arrangements, or invite alternative reviewers when appropriate.

The duration of editorial assessment and peer review may vary depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, the need for revisions, and the time required to reach an editorial decision. Authors should refer to the journal's official information for any published target timelines.

14. Reviewer Confidentiality and Anonymity

Reviewer identities and review-related information are handled confidentially in accordance with the journal's peer-review procedures. Reviewers must not disclose confidential manuscript information or discuss an assigned manuscript with unauthorized individuals.

Reviewers should not contact authors directly about a manuscript under review unless the editor has explicitly authorized such communication. Any potential disclosure of reviewer identity should be handled through the editorial team.

Authors must respect the confidentiality of the review process and must not attempt to identify, contact, or pressure reviewers. The journal will handle questions or concerns about reviewer conduct through its editorial procedures.

15. Handling Review Reports

Reviewer reports are used to inform editorial decisions and guide manuscript improvement. The editorial team may make limited editorial changes to reports to remove inappropriate language, personal attacks, or information that should remain confidential.

Substantive criticism should be communicated clearly and professionally. Reviewers should support their assessments with relevant reasoning and, where useful, references or specific examples. Authors are expected to engage with the substance of the comments when preparing a revision.

16. Purpose and Limitations of Peer Review

Peer review is an important mechanism for evaluating scholarly quality, improving manuscripts, and supporting responsible publication. It provides an independent assessment of the manuscript's strengths, limitations, methodology, interpretation, and contribution.

Although peer review can identify weaknesses, inconsistencies, and potential ethical concerns, it cannot guarantee that every error or instance of misconduct will be detected. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct of their research.

The journal seeks to apply peer review fairly and consistently, balancing rigorous scholarly evaluation with respect for diverse research approaches and well-supported contributions to education and teacher education.
