Abstract

This research aims to: 1) improve the intensive reading learning process and 2) improve the intensive reading skills of class IV students at SD Negeri 017 Tampan through implementing the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy. This type of research is collaborative Class Action Research. The subjects of this research were 36 grade IV students at SD Negeri 017 Tampan. The Kemmis & Mc Taggart model research design consists of 3 stages, namely: planning, implementation and observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques use: tests, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques use descriptive statistics and qualitative descriptive. The research results show that the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy can improve the learning process and intensive reading skills of class IV students at SD Negeri 017 Tampan. The improvement in the process shows that students are more active in expressing opinions and answering the teacher's questions regarding the content of the discourse, students' attention is better when listening to the teacher's explanation, most students can have group discussions well, and most students are active in presenting the results of their group discussions in front of the class.
