Analysis of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in the Video "Forgiving But Not Forgetting? [Rest.Found]" on Hanan Attaki's YouTube Channel

Abstract

This study examines a concrete problem in digital da’wah communication: how Hanan Attaki constructs persuasive messages on forgiveness that remain theologically grounded while addressing emotional dilemmas faced by young audiences. The purpose is to analyze Aristotelian rhetoric—ethos, pathos, and logos—in the YouTube video Memaafkan Tapi Bukan Melupakan? (uploaded 22 April 2026). Using a qualitative descriptive design, the unit of analysis was rhetorical segments in the video transcript, coded through operational indicators of ethos, pathos, and logos. The findings show that ethos is built through Qur’anic authority and prophetic narrative; pathos through emotionally resonant everyday scenes; and logos through causal reasoning, historical analogy, and behavioral definitions of forgiveness. The study benefits digital da’wah scholarship by demonstrating that classical rhetorical proofs remain analytically productive for contemporary religious communication on social media, especially on themes linking faith, interpersonal conflict, and emotional well-being.
