Abstract

The demand for a high school curriculum that is in line with 21st century learning is not only responsive to global changes and technology by paying attention to digital skills. The curriculum must also focus on the 4C skills (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, and Creativity and Innovation) to help students develop relevant skills according to the demands of the times. The quality of learning outcomes really depends on the learning process carried out. The problem found was that the learning results in class X4 at SMAN 1 Siak Hulu showed that 24 students out of 37 students scored below the KKM. The aim of this research is to determine the application of the PBL model in improving Biology learning outcomes. The type of research used for this research is classroom action research (Classroom Action Research) with the research flow including planning, implementation in 2 cycles, observation and reflection. The results obtained were an increase in the class average score from 51.5 to 71.8; an increase in the percentage of the very high score category from cycle I to cycle II by 8.2% to 21.6%; a decrease in the percentage of the low value category from cycle I to cycle II by 45.9% to 18.9%; and the increase in the percentage of students who scored ≥76 (KKM) in cycle I to cycle II was 37.8% to 75.7%.
