Abstract

Digital technology has brought significant changes to the education sector particularly the learning in institutions of higher learning. One of the technologies is artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT that students have introduced to assist them with writing academic papers. The proposed study consists in observing how ChatGPT could be employed to support the work of Communication Science students in Abdurrab University in the digital era, to complete academic tasks. The research is a qualitative research study with descriptive design in the research and in depth interview as a basis of data collection using the four students in the 2021-2024 groups. The findings indicate that ChatGPT is a practical learning software which can be helpful in helping students understand course-based information, identify initial sources, and accelerate the writing process. However, students are aware of the fact that they are to apply ChatGPT judiciously by verifying facts and setting up a state of academic integrity. This research paper has come to the conclusion that ChatGPT is positively applied in the academic setting when it serves as an aid and not a replacement of the critical thought processes.
