Effectiveness of the Combined Application of Trichoderma Biofertilizer and NPK Fertilizer on the Growth and Yield of Shallots

Background: Shallots are a high-value horticultural commodity in Indonesia, but their productivity remains low due to suboptimal soil fertility and inefficient use of inorganic fertilizers. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of integrating Trichoderma sp. and NPK fertilizer on shallot growth and yield components. Methods: The study was conducted from February to April 2026 in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, using an RBD with four treatments and six replications: P0 = 100% NPK, P1 = 5 ml/L Trichoderma sp. + 50% NPK, P2 = 10 ml/L Trichoderma sp. + 50% NPK, and P3 = 15 ml/L Trichoderma sp. + 50% NPK. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and DMRT at 5%. Results: The combination of Trichoderma sp. and NPK significantly affected the number of leaves and tillers but had no significant effect on plant height, number of bulbs, fresh bulb weight, or dry bulb weight. Treatment P2 was the best treatment with reduced NPK and was equivalent to P0. Reducing NPK by up to 50% with Trichoderma sp. maintained shallot growth at a level relatively equivalent to 100% NPK. Conclusions: Trichoderma sp. + 50% NPK has potential to support vegetative growth and reduce inorganic fertilizer use, but has not significantly increased bulb yield. This combination may serve as a more efficient fertilization alternative for shallot cultivation and warrants further optimization.
