Manuscript Types
JREC accepts two main categories of scholarly manuscripts: Original Research Articles and Review Articles.
Journal of Research and Education Chemistry (JREC) publishes scholarly contributions that advance knowledge in chemistry, chemical sciences, chemistry education, and related fields within the journal's focus and scope. Manuscripts must demonstrate academic rigor, methodological transparency, appropriate analysis, and a clear contribution to existing knowledge. Authors must select the category that best reflects the primary purpose and methodology of their submission.
Original Research Articles
Original Research Articles report original empirical investigations, laboratory experiments, field studies, chemistry education research, or methodological developments. These manuscripts must present a clearly defined research problem, appropriate research design, transparent methods, systematic analysis, and conclusions supported by the findings.
1. Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Studies
Investigations examining chemical reactions, materials, chemical properties, educational interventions, teaching strategies, learning media, or experimental conditions using appropriate comparison groups or measurement procedures.
2. Observational and Correlational Studies
Studies examining relationships, associations, patterns, or differences among chemical, environmental, behavioral, educational, or other relevant variables.
3. Chemical Laboratory and Field Research
Original laboratory, field-based, analytical, experimental, environmental, or other empirical investigations in chemistry and chemical sciences that fall within JREC's focus and scope.
4. Chemistry Education Research
Studies of chemistry teaching and learning, scientific literacy, chemical conceptual understanding, student achievement, teacher practices, assessment, laboratory learning, and chemistry learning environments.
5. Research and Development (R&D)
Studies involving the systematic development, validation, and evaluation of educational models, chemistry learning materials, laboratory activities, digital learning media, instructional tools, or other relevant innovations.
6. Instrument Development and Validation
Research developing, adapting, or validating measurement instruments, chemistry assessments, questionnaires, laboratory measurement procedures, or other methods relevant to chemistry and chemistry education.
7. Qualitative and Mixed-Methods Studies
Research using interviews, observations, document analysis, focus groups, or integrated qualitative and quantitative methods to address relevant chemistry and chemistry education research questions.
Review Articles
Review Articles critically synthesize, evaluate, and integrate existing scholarly literature on topics relevant to chemistry, chemical sciences, and chemistry education. Reviews should have a clearly defined objective, an appropriate and transparent approach to literature identification and analysis, and a meaningful contribution beyond a descriptive summary of previous studies.
1. Systematic Literature Review (SLR)
A structured review addressing a specific research question through predefined search strategies, eligibility criteria, study selection, critical appraisal where appropriate, and systematic synthesis.
2. Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
A systematic review that, where data and study comparability permit, combines quantitative results using appropriate statistical methods to estimate overall effects or relationships.
3. Scoping Review
Maps the extent, range, characteristics, and distribution of available evidence on a topic, clarifying key concepts and identifying gaps in chemistry or chemistry education research.
4. Bibliometric Analysis
Analyzes publication patterns, citation structures, influential authors, institutions, collaboration networks, and emerging research themes using bibliographic data.
5. Integrative Review
Integrates findings from diverse research designs to develop a broader understanding of a research problem, concept, or field of chemistry and chemistry education.
6. Critical and Narrative Review
Critically discusses and interprets existing literature to examine theoretical developments, competing perspectives, research limitations, and implications for future scholarship.
General Submission Requirements
All manuscripts submitted to JREC must meet the following general requirements:
- Fall within the journal's published focus and scope.
- Present a clear research objective and a meaningful scholarly contribution.
- Use appropriate and transparently reported research or review methods.
- Present findings and conclusions supported by evidence.
- Cite relevant literature accurately and follow the journal's reference and formatting requirements.
- Comply with research ethics, authorship, originality, and publication ethics policies.
- Provide ethics approval, informed consent, funding, conflict-of-interest, and other relevant declarations where applicable.
Editorial Assessment and Peer Review
All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine their relevance to JREC's scope, originality, completeness, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and adherence to submission requirements.
Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment may proceed to peer review according to the journal's editorial policies. Classification as an Original Research Article or Review Article does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
Commitment to Scientific Quality and Educational Impact
JREC aims to publish rigorous, transparent, and relevant original research and critical reviews that advance knowledge in chemistry and chemistry education. All submissions are evaluated according to their scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical standards, and contribution to the field.
