Abstract

As energy demand continues to increase and fossil fuel reserves become increasingly depleted, significant efforts have been made to develop sustainable alternative energy sources. One renewable energy source that has attracted considerable attention is bioethanol. Bioethanol is regarded as an environmentally friendly fuel because it produces relatively lower emissions compared to fossil fuels. Bioethanol can be produced from various types of biomass, including agricultural waste such as rice straw (oryza sativa L.).The method employed for bioethanol production in this study consisted of enzymatic hydrolysis followed by fermentation. During the hydrolysis stage, cellulase enzymes were used to convert lignocellulosic materials into simple sugars, which were subsequently fermented by *Saccharomyces cerevisiae* to produce ethanol. The study was conducted using variations in fermentation temperature of 20°C, 25°C, and 30°C, as well as fermentation periods of 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. Bioethanol was produced through enzymatic hydrolysis using cellulase enzymes followed by fermentation with *Saccharomyces cerevisiae*. The optimum condition was achieved at a fermentation temperature of 25°C and a fermentation time of 5 days, resulting in an ethanol concentration of 26.48%, a yield of 8.23%, and a conversion efficiency of 23.50%.
