Abstract
The study of legal philosophy continues to experience quite rapid development today. It is even certain that all problems in the field of law require philosophical studies in an effort to resolve them. This study aims to scientifically review the effectiveness and function of law in society. The functioning of law in society always involves legal ideals and legal realities, legal rules and the behavior of society in implementing the law. The factors that contribute to the effectiveness of the law include: (1) the legal factor itself, (2) the law enforcement factor, (3) the means or facilities factor, and (4) the community factor. The function of law in society itself can be seen from two aspects, namely as social control so that society does not commit acts that violate legal rules and as a tool to change society to achieve the desired goals.
