Abstract

Cu²⁺ was electrochemically detected using a Pencil Lead Electrode (PLE) modified with a Gold Thin
Layer. The Au modification on the PLE was performed through electrodeposition using the cyclic
voltammetry technique. This research was conducted to develop a Cu²⁺ sensor using Au-modified PLE
and to determine the optimal conditions for Cu²⁺ detection. The results showed that the modification of the
Pencil Lead Electrode with a Gold Thin Layer provided better catalytic activity compared to the
unmodified Pencil Lead Electrode, using HNO₃ as the supporting electrolyte at pH 1, a calibration curve
was obtained with a correlation coefficient (R²) of 0.9843 and a detection limit (LOD) of 0.19 mM.
