Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of competence on employee performance with training as an intervening variable for the secretariat section of the Riau Provincial Public Works Department. This study uses a quantitative approach. The population in this study were employees of the Secretariat Section of the Public Works Office of Riau Province, amounting to 70 people and the sample in this study were all civil servants in the Secretariat Section of the Public Works Department of Riau Province as many as 42 people. Partial least square (PLS) is used to test the hypothesis in this research using SmartPLS 3.0. The results of this study found that there was a significant positive effect of competence on employee performance, there was a significant positive effect of competence on education and training, there was a positive effect of training on employee performance, and there was a direct positive effect of competence on employee performance with education and training as an intervening variable.
