Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine how picture flashcards help 4-5-year-old children at Pertiwi 1 Kindergarten in Kabunan develop their expressive language skills. Children's ability to express desires, thoughts, and ideas verbally and in writing is known as expressive language. This ability is crucial for supporting early childhood social skills and emotional balance. A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study; data were collected in a combined manner and analyzed inductively; the researcher emphasized meaning rather than generalization. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews. The results showed that, although children in Class A required more attention, their expressive language skills were developing well according to the Child Development Achievement Level Standards (STPPA). Audiovisual and picture flashcards were the most commonly used learning media. Activities to improve expressive language skills were conducted daily and evaluated weekly and monthly. Picture flashcards were considered effective because they were concrete, engaging, and helped children master their skills and increase their confidence when speaking. However, some shortcomings included being ineffective in large groups and ineffective in learning that requires complex two-way interactions. Overall, using picture flashcards can help develop children's expressive language skills through a fun and interactive learning method. This will make the learning process more varied and tailored to future developmental needs.
