Scientific explanations and educational implications of the identified superstitious beliefs were investigated. Purposive random sampling technique was employed to select 300 S.S. 2 students based on socio-economic background. The responses received formed data for the analysis.</em><em> The Biology-related Superstitious Beliefs Questionnaire (BSBQ) was the instrument</em><em>. </em><em>Four r</em><em>e</em><em>s</em><em>e</em><em>ar</em><em>c</em><em>h questions were raised and answered while one hypothesis was formulated and tested. The data collected were subjected to frequency count, percentage, ranking and t test. The results indicated that the respondents (i) held some superstitious beliefs about health, pregnancy, food and animals.<strong> (</strong>ii<strong>) </strong>A good number of the superstitious beliefs were found to have scientific explanations while some do not have. <strong>(</strong>iii<strong>) </strong>Superstitious beliefs affect students in classroom situations (iv) students from poor homes held more superstitious beliefs than those from rich home but there was no statistical difference between them. The recommendation made are that (i) Science educators should relate science more closely to learners, (ii) provide scientific explanations to superstitious beliefs and (iii) Government and non-governmental organizations should support in eradicating superstitious beliefs in our schools irrespective of students socio-economic background.</em></p> Mulkah Adebisi AHMED Mary Oyepeju Oyedibu Copyright (c) 2022 Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan 2022-04-25 2022-04-25 13 1 1 13 10.25299/perspektif.2022.vol13(1).8613 Principal's Strategy in Improving Teacher Professionalism https://journal.uir.ac.id/index.php/Perspektif/article/view/9004 <p>The success of education cannot be separated from the efforts of the principal as a leader in directing and motivating teachers. This study aims to reveal the principal's leadership strategy in improving teacher professionalism. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, data sources include all teachers and vice principals, while data collection is through interview and documentation techniques. The analysis uses continuous participatory techniques, through the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the principal's strategy in increasing teacher professionalism was by activating the teacher working group (KKG), motivating teachers, training, comparative studies, teacher evaluation meetings, classroom supervision, giving punishment and rewards, and through a participatory leadership style.</p> Ari Wibowo Achadi Budi Santosa santosa Copyright (c) 2022 Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan 2022-04-25 2022-04-25 13 1 14 20 10.25299/perspektif.2022.vol13(1).9004 Development of Learning Devices with Problem Based Learning Model on Statistics Material for Class VIII SMP https://journal.uir.ac.id/index.php/Perspektif/article/view/9374 <p><em>This study aims to produce mathematics learning tools in the form of a syllabus, lesson plans (RPP), and student worksheets (LKPD) with a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on valid statistical material for class VIII SMP. This development uses a 4-D model consisting of four stages, namely the Define stage, the Design stage, the Develop stage, and the Disermination stage. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, the 4-D development model was only carried out in three stages, namely: the Define stage (definition), the Design stage (planning), and the Develop stage (development). The data collection instruments used were syllabus, lesson plans, and LKPD validation sheets. The data collection technique used was a non-test technique in the form of a questionnaire validation sheet given to three validators, namely two lecturers of Mathematics Education FKIP UIR and one mathematics teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Singingi. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. From the results of the study, the results of the syllabus validation were 88.71% with a very valid category, for RPP of 85.05% very valid category, and for LKPD 86.85% very valid category. Based on this development research, it was obtained that a learning device using the Problem Based Learning model for statistical material for class VIII SMP was tested for validity.</em></p> Riska Aprilia Zetriuslita Zetriuslita Rezi Ariawan Lilis Marina Anggraini Copyright (c) 2022 Perspektif Pendidikan dan Keguruan 2022-04-28 2022-04-28 13 1 21 27 10.25299/perspektif.2022.vol13(1).9374 Edmodo as an Alternative Media for Online Learning in Elementary Schools During the Pandemic https://journal.uir.ac.id/index.php/Perspektif/article/view/9429 <p>This research is a literature study with a qualitative approach that aims to describe the role of Edmodo as an alternative media for online learning in elementary schools during the pandemic. In this study, the author uses various written sources from scientific articles originating from national and international journals as well as documents that are considered relevant to the study in this research. The results of the study show that Edmodo has a role as an online learning media that can be seen from the features it contains, including: note (notes), assignment (tasks), poll (election), quiz (quiz), library (library). Thus Edmodo is one of the effective alternative media to be used in online learning in elementary schools during the pandemic.
